Cheryl Thompson-Draper is your 2022-2024 and 2024-2026 SREC SD 18 Committee Woman, TRCCA Board Member 2023-2025 and the 2018-2024 Lavaca County Republican Party Chairman.
Cheryl Thompson-Draper is a Christian, native Texan, Constitutional Conservative, loving wife, mother of 3 and grandmother of 13. Born, raised and had a successful business career in Harris County- she and her hubby John Draper retired and moved to their Lavaca County ranch in 2014.
Previously she served on Texas Governor Rick Perry’s Economic Development Task Force, Governor’s Business Council. In 2000 Cheryl was unanimously appointed by Harris County’s Judge Eckels and Commissioners (4 Rs &1 D) as a Commissioner for the Port of Houston Authority -only the third woman to serve as a Port Commissioner since 1909. Serving from 2000-2006.
Though loving retirement living in the much slower paced Lavaca County, Cheryl needed to meet their neighbors and was immediately asked to serve as Precinct Chairman and Secretary for the County Party. In the March 2018 Primary Election, she was elected Chairman of the Lavaca County Republican Party. During those first 6 months as Chairman, she continued to serve out her term as President of the Republican Women of Yoakum Area (RWOYA) (2017 & 2018).
During the two years as President of RWOYA Cheryl directed the creation of both the Jackson County Republican Women club as well as the Crossroads High School Republicans of Texas organization. Cheryl was RWOYA Committee Chairman of the Republican Primary Candidate Forum in 2016 and 2018 and the Primary Run Off Debates following each election as well as the Republican Rallies. In October 2020 Cheryl assisted in creation of a new Republican Women’s Club- Great State Republicans- where Cheryl served as Campaign Activities Chairman. As SREC she is an associate member of each of the 18 counties RW Clubs with her returning as a full member to her home club- Republican Women of Yoakum Area.

Cheryl has previously been elected as a delegate to many Texas Federation of Republican Women (TFRW) state conventions in 2015,2017,2019 & 2021 (attended -not a delegate 2023), a delegate to Lavaca County Precinct Conventions, Lavaca County Conventions, and Republican Party of Texas (RPT) state conventions in 2014, 2016, 2018 ,2020 and 2022 and 2024. She was appointed to the RPT State Convention Organization Committee in each of these conventions -2016, 2018 & 2020.
Cheryl is a board member of the Texas Republican County Chairman’s Association (TRCCA) where she has been a member since being elected as County Chairman. She serves on the Lavaca County Elections Commission and the Lavaca County Election Board. As a current board member of PRO-LIFE organizations: Rise Up for Life and formerly on the Gabriel Project of the Crossroads. Cheryl has also testified for Pro Life issues in Austin. Cheryl serves on the Lavaca County Veterans Appreciation Day committee and the Armed Forces Appreciation Day committee for the Houston Rodeo.
Cheryl was humbled to be named a 2019 Texas Federation of Republican Women ‘Tribute to Women Honoree’ and The Republican Party of Texas named her their "Volunteer of the Year 2019/2020".

She was elected in June 2022 as the SREC SD-18 Commitee Woman at the 2022 RPT State Convention- 2022-2024. IF reelected she may serve only 4 terms total before being term limited per RPT rules.

During her first term as SREC SD-18 CW-(June 2022-May 2024) Cheryl has traveled to all 18 counties for County Executive Committee meetings, Republican Clubs and RW Club meetings and events. Cheryl has assisted by training and giving her insight to several of the county's CECs as well as bringing 2 new County Chairmen on board just before the 2024 filing period started in November 2023. She and her 2022-2024 Committeeman Howard Barker produced several SD-18 (Quarterly/biannual) meetings introducing important and timely speakers all across the vast 18 county district. As a whole body the SRECs have quarterly meetings in Austin to attend- usually taking a Thursday evening, all day and evening Friday and Saturday all day until 5 pm. In her first two-year service as CW Cheryl has put thousands of miles on her car and spent many nights away from home at her own expense. SRECs are not paid or reimbursed for their time or mileage- as it is a labor of love and a feeling of responsibility for our future generations to hold Texas RED!
As a County Chairman herself (and a former Precinct Chairman) she serves on the Party Organization Committee of the SREC and has assisted in the updating of the County Chairman, Precinct Chairman and SREC Handbooks. She also serves on the SREC's CRC Committee. In addition- each SREC is responsible to bring in $1000. per year ($2000 per term) to the RPT -mostly through the Candidate Resource Committee (CRC) that supports down ballot candidates (District, County) that have democrats running against them in the November General Election.

Cheryl has enjoyed the hard work of a Committeewoman representing SD-18 (18) counties and humbly thanks you for your support and vote for her run for re-election as SREC SD-18 Committeewoman at the 2024 State Republican Party Convention. Cheryl will work hard for you again. Contact her let her know your issues and praises!
